Michael Cole is already the butt of jokes backstage at RAW. Vince McMahon was furious because when Cole got the cue from the producer to take the last commercial during the Fatal Four-Way match on RAW last week, he said something like “We have to take our final break. The match rolls on.” This would be acceptable on SmackDown because it’s a taped show and there’s no pretense that a finish could take place during a break but on RAW, while a finish never happens during a break, they want to treat it like a shoot. Vince said that what Cole did tells people the finish couldn’t take place during the break as he feels it told people the show is a work, therefore it disconnects the viewers from the match being a temporary escape treated as being real. People were saying how Jim Ross never made that mistake.
