About LetsTalkWrestling
What This Site Covers
LetsTalkWrestling is a fan-built resource about the sport of wrestling — pro and amateur/Olympic wrestling alike. That means the styles, from folkstyle and freestyle to Greco-Roman and the entertainment side of the business, training and conditioning, moves and technique, event coverage, championships and promotions, and a set of free calculators built for the specific questions wrestlers and fans actually run into.
What This Site Isn’t
It isn’t a coaching program, a sanctioning body, or a stand-in for a licensed coach or physician. Cutting weight for wrestling carries real health risk, and training decisions carry real injury risk, so nothing here should replace guidance from a qualified coach or a doctor. LetsTalkWrestling is also not affiliated with WWE, AEW, UWW, USA Wrestling, the NCAA, or any other promotion, federation, or sanctioning body it writes about — it covers them the way any independent fan site does, from the outside, not from inside the organization.
Independent and Ad-Supported
This site is run independently and kept free through advertising, which is what pays for hosting and lets every tool and article stay free with no account, login, or paywall. The calculators below are built on published formulas and widely used conventions — the Epley formula, MET-based calorie estimates, standard single-elimination bracket math, and published sanctioning-body weight classes — and turn them into a quick estimate from whatever numbers you enter. An estimate is not a diagnosis, a personalized training plan, or professional advice; your actual results depend on your body, your training, and the ruleset you compete under.
The Tools
Six calculators, each built around one concrete question:
- Weight Class Calculator: enter your body weight and ruleset to see which weight class you compete in — folkstyle college, senior freestyle, or pro.
- Match Card Duration Calculator: list each bout and an intermission length to estimate how long a wrestling show or dual meet runs, bell to bell.
- Wrestling Calorie Calculator: estimate calories burned on the mat with the MET method, from body weight, session length, and intensity.
- One-Rep Max Calculator: estimate a one-rep max from any set using the Epley formula, plus the percentage-of-1RM loads to program strength work.
- Tournament Bracket Calculator: size a single-elimination bracket from an entry list — bracket size, rounds, total matches, and first-round byes.
- Tale of the Tape Calculator: compare two wrestlers side by side on height, weight, and reach.
Beyond the Tools
The Wrestling Museumis a set of galleries on the sport itself — the styles from freestyle to pro, grappling traditions from around the world, ancient Greek and Olympic wrestling and its legends, and the ring and gear of the mat — with every entry, image, and fact drawn from Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons. The blog and learnsection go deeper on training, technique, and event topics. Found something wrong, or wish a calculator existed that doesn’t yet? Get in touch.
