The Rock’s poorly-reviewed “Tooth Fairy” starts slowly at box office

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s “Tooth Fairy” got off to a fairly slow start Friday, earning just $3.5 million for fourth place at the box office.

While the family-skewing film will recover somewhat due to presumably successful matinee business Saturday, it will still make for the worst opening weekend performance of Johnson’s career as far as his youth-targeted movies are concerned.

By comparison, “The Game Plan” opened with $6.3 million on its first Friday. “Race to Witch Mountain” started with $6.7 million.

Elsewhere, new release “Legion” landed in second with $6.7 million, while “Extraordinary Measures” was sixth with $2 million.
